There are some differences between a wine-ageing cellar and a wine storage cellar. The first one is used to store the wine over long periods of time, usually several years. The second one is used to prepare wine right before you serve it. The storage cellar is an intermediary step between the wine-ageing cellar and the service cellar.

Wine cellar: 3 possible uses

First, know that there are several ways to use a wine cellar. It can be used to store bottles, but also to age wine or prepare wine before serving it. Depending on the use, the storing conditions can change.

Wine-ageing cellar

As we said, a wine-ageing cellar is used to store bottles over a long period of time, sometimes over 10 years. If you want your wine to improve over time, certain conditions must be met. You need a temperature between and 10 and 14°C. Then the bottle must be protected from light. The humidity level must always be above 50%. And finally, it is recommended to let the bottles rest stable and the air circulate for a perfect preservation.

With a UV treated door and a temperature zone adjustable between 5 and 20°C, the SCCVI60462 wine cellar is the perfect example of a wine-ageing cellar.

Wine storage cellar

Actually, the main difference between a wine-ageing cellar and a wine storage cellar is the bottles storage time. Conversely, to store or age wine, the same storing conditions must be met. This includes a temperature from 10 to 14°C, humidity levels above 50%, absence of UV rays, a good circulation of air and stable bottles.

The SCCVI60462 cellar can also be a storage cellar, as well as the SCCVI30172 cellar.

Service cellar

Compared to a wine-ageing or storage cellar, a service cellar has another goal: keeping the bottles at the right temperature before you serve the wine. All wines are not to be savoured at the same temperature, so you should choose a multi-temperature cellar such as the SCCV62DB. For this type of cellar, note that protection from the sun is not always necessary.
